ZNS starts Winter Maize Project

By Lucky Phiri

The Zambia National Service -ZNS – has started planting winter maize at its Chanyanya Farms in Kafue district.

This is part of the 1,978 Hectares of maize the Service is earmarked to plant by July, 2024.

And Defense Minister AMBROSE LUFUMA says the winter maize will help supplement the country’s maize stock.

Mr. LUFUMA said this when he flagged off the planting of Irrigated winter maize at ZNS Chanyanya Farms in Kafue District.

He said the irrigated maize is part of the government’s interventions to curb the impact of drought on food security.

And ZNS Commander Lieutenant General MALITI SOLOCHI said the drought that has hit the country has prompted the Service to enhance the irrigation of crops.
