Zicta extends sim registration to February 2023

Patricia Banda-The Zambia Information and Communication Authority -ZICTA has extended SIM registration for all the three mobile service providers to February next year.

The exercise which was scheduled to end Saturday will now end month end of February.

ZICTA Acting Director Consumer Protection and Information Management EDGAR MLAUZI says the authority will keep monitoring the process.

Mr. MLAUZI says the extension of the registration is meant to allow more subscribers register their Sim cards.

He told ZNBC News that subscribers have to register full details because of cases of fraud hence the authority requiring people who had used their National Registration Cards to register to provide facial details.

And Mr. MLAUZI has urged all mobile service providers to provide a digital platform for all subscribers to register their sim cards.

Meanwhile, scores of Lusaka residents queued outside service centres for some mobile providers to beat the earlier deadline of 31st December.

Those talked to expressed worry because their sim cards have bank details and mobile money accounts.

Others like BEATRICE PHIRI complained that the system to register was very slow, while a BEN MUSONDA said he had tried three times to register and had not been successful.
