ZESCO TO FACE GREEN EAGLES

MTN super league defending champions ZESCO UNITED will take on Green Eagles in the 2022, 4-Million Kwacha rich ABSA Cup tournament that kicks off this month.
The draws conducted in Lusaka this morning for the 15th showpiece whose quarter final will be held at the Arthur Davis Stadium in Kitwe, on the weekend 12 and 13th of March will see current league leaders Red Arrows take on struggling Nkwazi.
In other fixtures, National Division one outfit Lumwana Radiants will play NKANA while the Pensioners NAPSA Stars have a date with Army Sponsored side Green Buffaloes.
Winners will pocket 6-hundred and 50 thousand Kwacha while runners up will get 3-hundred thousand kwacha.
Meanwhile, Coach and player of the tournament will each pocket 25-thousand kwacha, while man of the match will get 15-thousand Kwacha.
And Speaking during the launch, Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU urged this year’s competitors to work hard to the expectations of the fans and sponsors.
NKANDU has also implored other financial and corporate entities to come on board and sponsor various teams especially those in women’s football.
He has since reiterated Government’s commitment to growing and promoting Sport through public private partnerships aimed at elevating sports infrastructure.
And Football Association of Zambia-FAZ- President ANDREW KAMANGA said the Cup tournament is the best avenue for Chipolopolo Coach AIJOSA ASANOVIC to scout for local talent.
He further implored other corporate entities to come on board and help sponsor various developmental programs like the women’s league which in its second season is running without sponsorship.
Meanwhile, ABSA Bank Managing Director MIZINGA MELU said this year’s sponsorship package which is the highest in the Cup’s history, is testimony of the firm’s commitment towards the development of football.
The Semi-final of the competition will be held on the 2nd of April at Nkoloma Stadium, while the Final will be staged on April 16th at the National Heroes stadium in Lusaka.
