ZEMA GUIDES ON KAZUNGULA BRIDGE

By Mercy Ngoma:

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency -ZEMA-says it is important for the country to continue safeguarding the environmental around the Kazungula Bridge.

ZEMA Manager-Environmental Assessments, CONSTANTINO MWEMBELA said this today when the agency took journalists on a conducted tour of the Kazungula Bridge to appreciate ZEMA’s role at the border facility between Zambia and Botswana.

Mr. MWEMBELA said ZEMA continues to monitor environmental requirements around the facility including the importation of materials that can be harmful to the environment.

ZEMA Corporate Affairs Manager, FRIDAY PHIRI said the media tour was aimed at sharing information with journalists on the role of the agency in the environmental impact assessment process.

Mr. PHIRI said the environmental impact assessment process is a key environmental sustainability tool that the agency uses to ensure a balance between economic activities and environmental protection.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day which is commemorated on June 5th is “Only One Earth”, and calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore the planet Earth.
