ZCID Urges Political Parties To Help Improve Public Order Act

Etambuyu Katota-The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue -ZCID- has urged political parties to help improve the Public Order Act by submitting to the review process.

ZCID Executive Director DOREEN NJOBVU says political rallies are mainly the affected gatherings and the review process will give them an opportunity to include their voices.

Ms. NJOBVU says ZCID also been approached by GEARS Initiative to mobilize political parties to ensure that they participate in the process.

She says it has been a cry by political parties to have a law that is fair and does not disadvantage those in the opposition.

Ms. NJOBVU spoke with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

Meanwhile Gears Initiative Executive Director MCDONALD CHIPENZI says laws such as the Public Order Act, Cyber Security and Crime Act and the NGO Act need to be reviewed because they are oppressive.

Mr. CHIPENZI has told ZNBC News in Livingstone that the three laws need urgent review to bring them in line with the democratic dispensation citizens have yearned for since independence.

He said his organisation has embarked on a project to engage the public in the advocacy for immediate review of the laws.
