ZBF Upbeat about 2022 Commonwealth games

Chansa Kunda-The Zambia Boxing Federation -ZBF- says it targets to rewrite history by minting gold at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games to be held in England.

Zambia last picked up a gold medal on the Queens soil at the 2002 Manchester games through then flyweight fighter KENNEDY KANYANTA while DENNIES ZIMBA got silver.

And ZBF President DAN CHITEULE says the country can replicate its 2002 record where KANYANTA won gold.

CHITEULE says the games being held in the United Kingdom out of the four boxers bound to travel, Zambia can mint gold.

He says of the four boxers, three are male while one is female.

CHITEULE told ZNBC Sports News that despite being allocated four slots, hope still lingers that the number can be increased and that a provisional team in all weight categories has been picked in anticipation of any changes

He said the federation has since started preparations for the 2022 Commonwealth games slated for July 28th to August 8th this year.

CHITEULE said the team will also take part in the Zone Four Boxing tournament to be held in Maputo Mozambique from the April 20th to 23rd 2022.

He said a team of 15 boxers both male and female will travel for the Zone four games.
