Sensational Zanaco Football Club beat Super League Champions, Zesco United by a lone goal to clinch the 2019/2020 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity shield.
Toaster Nsabata was left out of the match day squad hence Mangani Phiri was given a node ahead of Racha Kola while veteran defender Ziyo Tembo partnered Tiberius Lombard at the heart of defence.
For Zesco United, Young left back John Chishimba was given a starting berth ahead of Fackson Kapumbu. New comers Thambani Kamusoko and Umaru Kasumba also started with Japanese midfielder Kosuke Nakamachi only making it to the bench.
Ziyo Tembo’s well taken header was the difference as a dominant Zanaco side emerged victorious after 90 minutes.
Zanaco controlled the game with Souleymanou Moussa and Tafadzwa Rusike at the center of the Zanaco attack. Zesco United created a number of chances but a combination of Mangani Banda’s brilliant saves and failure to convert let them down.
In the earlier game, National Assembly edged Young Green Eagles by a Lone Godwin Chipanama goal to win the first ever Division One Charity shield sponsored by Eden University, The National Division One.
