ZAMBIA TRIUMPHS OVER SENEGAL

By Effie Mphande

Zambia has beaten Senegal in the First Ever Antimicrobial Resistance Debate Competition.

The Zambian team, which was made up of students from the Copperbelt University, Apex, Chreso and UNILUS, scored 8.3 out of 10 points while Senegal got 8.1.

Both teams put forward insightful and thought provoking arguments.

The debate took place in Dakar, Senegal where commemorations to mark World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week are underway.

The students debated the motion “misuse and overuse of antibiotics is the major driver of antimicrobial resistance in the African region.”

The debate competition was organised by the quadripartite and African Union.
