ZAMBIA TO NEGOTIATE WITH CREDITORS

By Wilson Mulinda

Zambia has been invited to participate in the creditors’ meeting organized by the Paris club on Thursday June 16, 2022.

Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE says the Zambian team will join the virtual meeting to negotiate with creditors for debt restructuring through different approaches such as lengthening the time to repay the liability.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says this development is another step forward towards resolving the debt crisis which has affected national development for several years.

He says Government is hopeful that debt relief will come following negotiations from the meeting and the IMF programme will kick in for financial assistance.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said Government wants to ensure economic stability by the time the country starts paying back the debt.

He said his Ministry will issue a statement on the outcome of the meeting.
