Zambia First to Implement Japan’s Health Initiative

By Ruth Chayinda- Zambia will be one of the first countries in Africa to implement Japan’s Africa Health and wellbeing Initiative.This came to light when Zambia and Japan signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for Japan’s Africa Health and wellbeing Initiative.Speaking during the signing ceremony Japanese Ambassador Hidenobu Sobashima said the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development -TICAD- has 3 pillars which are based on the acceleration of economic transformation and improving business environment through innovation and private sector engagement.Mr. Sobashima said Japan is determined to Cooperate with African countries to achieve Universal Health Coverage.He is hopeful that through the participation of President Edgar Lungu at the TICAD 7, the initiative will contribute to Zambia’s development through technology and innovation.And Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya, who signed on behalf of Zambia, said Government will continue to encourage global partnerships.Dr Chilufya said Japan and Zambia continue to share cordial relations which have contributed to continued cooperation, especially in the health sector.He noted that Japan had supported Government in the expansion of health infrastructure, human capital development and provided expertise.
