(By ZANIS)

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu has expressed happiness with the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) for their dedication to farming to ensure food security is enhanced in the country.

ZANIS reports that Mr MWIIMBU encouraged the ZCS Command to concentrate on growing maize seed which he described to be more lucrative than selling ordinary maize.

The minister declared that the ZCS has the capacity to feed the country with its mechanised farming.

Mr Mwiimbu said this after touring Mukuyu ZCS farm in Kabwe as part of his familiarisation tour of departments under his charge to appreciate the challenges they are facing.

And Mukuyu farm Assistant Manager, Reuben Mwango mentioned that the farm has 300 hectares and that 50 hectares of seed maize has been cultivated, 150 hectares of soya seed among other crops have been planted amid expectations of a bumper harvest.

Mr Mwango explained that the farm has six centre pivots which are fully operational.
