The Zambia Air Force -ZAF- has praised government for constructing a runway and rehabilitating infrastructure at the Kasama Airport.

ZAF Air Defence Commandant Brigadier General MICHAEL MUKUKA says the runway is a strategic infrastructure that the Air Force will also use to conduct air defence operations.

General MUKULA says the newly refurbished runway is well-positioned and will ease the launching of military operations into different areas.

Speaking to ZANIS at Kasama Airport shortly after the launch of a special operation for L-15 fighter jets, General MUKUKA indicated that the operation is a normal one in line with the military wing’s mandate to defend the airspace.

He said the operation is meant to build confidence in the people of Northern Province and would-be investors that their investments in the region is secure.

General MUKUKA has since urged the public not to be alarmed by the fighter jets, but instead feel protected by the defence wing.

And Dr MWAPE has expressed satisfaction with the move by the air force to conduct operations in Kasama after the commissioning of the runway and the airport.

Meanwhile, Provincial Air Defence Commander Colonel WESTON TIRANE said the operation is a historical one as it is the first time that fighter jets are landing in Kasama.
