WWF TO HELP RESTORE LAND IN MAZABUKA

(ZANIS) World Wide Fund for Nature -WWF- has embarked on a project aiming to restore at least 10 thousand hectares of land through the Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration -FMNR- technique in Mazabuka District.

WWF Chief Conservation Officer ISABEL MUKELABAI says through effective land restoration, she is hopeful the project would impact positively on sustainable food production, timber production and ultimately increase resilience to the risks of climate change.

Ms MUKELABAI says the rationale behind the project is the numerous challenges the district is facing regarding forestry management.

She said this in Mazabuka during the launch of the FMNR Project funded by WWF.

The project is set to be managed by Solidaridad and implemented by the Mazabuka Forestry Department.

And Mazabuka District Commissioner OLIVER MULOMBA who officiated at the event said it is every stakeholder’s responsibility to look after the environment as it is the foundation of the country’s economy.

Meanwhile, Mwanachingwala Chiefdom representative GRISTEN CHOOMBA welcomed the project as it is set to yield positive results.
