WU APPEALS AGAINST 3 YEAR MANSLAUGHTER SENTENCE

By Christopher Miti

The Chinese national who was on Wednesday this week sentenced to 3 years with hard labour on a charge of manslaughter has appealed against the sentence.

WU ZHIGANG was sent to jail after he was convicted for causing the death of EDWARD MANDA, a resident in Chief ZUMWANDA’s area in Lumezi, Eastern province.

ZHIGANG shot and wounded MANDA when he found him trespassing at JIN WAN Mine.

MANDA sustained a fractured thigh and died 2 days later, after the shooting incident.

But ZHIGANG has been granted bail in the sum of 150,000 Kwacha, with two working sureties, who should be Zambian citizens, each in the sum of 50,000 Kwacha.

The court has further ordered ZHIGANG to surrender his passport, and also start reporting to Chipata Central Police Station every two weeks.
