Women’s National Playoffs: Green Eagles win promotion as Solwezi Academy and Prison Leopards close in on Promotion

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Lusaka Province Women’s League Champions, Green Eagles have earned a promotion to the Women’s National League after they edged a determined Mpaji Queens 2-0 in their second group B match played this afternoon at Crested Crane Academy Ground.

A goal in each half from joint play-off top goal scorer Racheal Moono and Sylvia Zulu was enough for The Unstoppable Eagles under the hospices of Coach Simon Kayombo to maintain their unbeaten record in 27 matches in all competitions this season and book one of the four slots on the promotion to National League.

Mpaji have a chance to also join Eagles if they win tomorrow’s game against Chipata Girls arguably a game the Northern Province-based Spanner Girls will put in everything just for them to win against The Ndife Tiliko Che Girls from Eastern Province in a 15:00hrs kick-off.

Both Chipata Girls and Mpanji need a win to seal promotion and will be fighting for a victory but a draw can also earn Chipata Girls promotion as a second-best placed team thanks to their goal difference on -1 which is better than Mpanji Queens’ -2.

Meanwhile, at Margaret Mwanakatwe Bauleni Stadium, it was a thrilling encounter between Prison Leopards and Solwezi Academy in a match where a winner was going to join Green Eagles in sealing promotion to the National League.

The Correct Ladies went 2-1 up at the break thanks to a Goal each from Catherine Nachimata and Elina Chanda who is now on two goals both netting long-range free kicks while Pobo Queens scored through Comfort Selemani.

However, the Coach Moses Simpamba drilled lasses were punished in the dying moments of the match as the player of the match Comfort Selemani who scored a brace restored parity and leveled the scores for the well organized Coach Hendrix Muimui tutored side as they shared spoils at the end of the day in a 4-goal thriller.

Leopards will face Choma Warriors in a match they will only need a draw to qualify to National League while Solwezi Academy will face Kitwe Girls who are already out of the race to National League.

In the lunchtime kick-off, Southern Province Champions Choma Warriors edged Kitwe Girls 1-0 to revive their chance of qualifying to National League courtesy of a goal from former Zambia Women’s National Team Midfielder Rixina Lutaka who converted from the penalty spot.

Chopicho needs a win tomorrow when they face Prison Leopards in their final Group A match to earn promotion to the top tier of Zambian Women’s Football.
