Women’s League: Indeni Roses complete double over ZISD as Wanderers Queens come from a goal down to beat Police Doves

FAZ Women’s Super League week 18 action continued this afternoon with three mouthwatering fixtures across the country, two in the capital city and one on the Copperbelt.

Third-placed Indeni Roses took a long journey from Ndola to Lusaka to lock horns with Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) Women Football at Independence Stadium.

It was a good day at the office for the Oilo Ladies as they redeemed themselves from last weekend’s home loss to Lusaka Dynamos Ladies Football Club with a comfortable 3-0 victory over ZISD thanks to goals from Thelma Phiri, Grace Kamanga, and Rhoda Chileshe to complete a double having won with the same scoreline in the reverse fixture in Ndola.

This victory has taken The Roses to 30 points on the log standings, 9 behind log leaders ZESCO Ndola Girls who defeated National Assembly 1-0 on Saturday 26th June 2021 with Penelope Mulubwa scoring for Zegalicious.

At Hospice Ground, Stubborn YASA Queens played host to High Flying Nkwazi in another interesting affair.

With the reverse fixture ending in a barren draw, there were a lot of expectations going into this match and well there was nothing much that came out of that match as yet again first-round history repeated itself as YASA were held to a goalless draw by Nkwazi.

Both sides had a share of opportunities but it was Nkwazi Queens Goalkeeper Eunice ‘Toaster’ Sakala who was equal to the task of putting up brilliant saves denying the Stubborn YASA a home victory.

Sakala was making her League return for Nkwazi having been away in camp with the Senior Women’s National Team currently preparing for the Rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympics to be staged next month in Japan.

The match ended 0-0 between YASA and Nkwazi.

In Mafken, Mufulira Wanderers Women Football Club came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Police Dove Queens at Shinde Stadium.

The Fearless Queens were the first to score through Goalpoacher Enelesi Phiri in the first half and her goal was the difference going at the break as Dove’s were 1-nil up in the first 45 minutes.

After the break, like the saying goes “Maite Awina Ichungulo’ the Mighty Ladies delivered from that adage as they scored 2 goals in the second half courtesy of Monica Chisanga and Beatrice Chishala who converted from the penalty spot to inflict painful revenge on Police Dove who had won 3-2 in the reverse fixture in Solwezi.

This was the second time Mufulira Wanderers are coming from behind because they forced a 2-2 draw away in Lusaka against ZISD scoring 2 quick goals in a space of 4 minutes after they went down 2-0 in the first half for the match to end 2-2.

The final score at Shinde was Mufulira Wanderers 2-1 Police Dove Queens.
