Women’s League: Green Buffaloes won Zone A as Chipata Girls are relegated

Green Buffaloes Women Football Club are the winners of the 2022 FAZ Transitional Women’s National League Zone A with 2 games to spare.

This was after they defeated National Assembly 2-1 at the weekend in Arakan Barracks a result which took their total tally of points to 40 with only 2 games to play before the end of the season and they are the only team unbeaten in 14 matches this season.

ZESCO Ndola Girls who are in the second position with 28 points, 1 above third-placed Indeni Roses can not surpass Buffaloes even if they win their remaining games.

ZESCO and Indeni might just go to the wire on D-day to claim second spot as both teams could win it on the last match day when they lockhorns with each other at Trade Fair Grounds.

However, Nkwazi and Police Dove Queens also have a chance to make it to the second position as they are not far from ZESCO and Indeni with only 5 points separating them plus a game in hand for Nkwazi put them in an advantage going forward.

Elsewhere, in Group B, it’s a two-horse race between log leaders Stubborn YASA who have 34 points and second placed Red Arrows with 30 points who have a game in hand against ZISD this week.

Its a winner taking it all in terms of bragging rights in the remaining 2 games before the end of the league and non can afford to drop points.

ZISD have 25 points on third followed by Lusaka Dynamos Ladies with 23 and BUSA with 20 points meaning that all the 3 teams have a chance to also finish in the top 2 if they can avoid dropping points in their remaining games as they are only separated by a minimal difference.

Meanwhile, relegation dog fight continues with Mufulira Wanderers, Solwezi Academy and Nkana fighting to survive being dropped to the provincial leagues as they are on the bottom 3 on the log standings with only 2 games to play in Zone A.

Chipata Girls have been confirmed relegated in Zone B and could be joined by either Green Eagles or Prison Leopards though Leopards will be hoping for a positive disciplinary ruling in the abandoned game with BUSA in Kabwe while Queens Academy look like they have dodged the chopping board.

Top 2 teams from both Zones will battle in the semi finals to determine who makes it to the final and the winner will be crowned Champions of the 2021/22 FAZ Women’s National League Season.

Green Buffaloes are already confirmed COSAFA TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League Zambian representative for this season and for a second year in succession.
