VISUALLY IMPAIRED CALL FOR ECZ SUPPORT

By Angela Limwanya- Network of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities Livingstone Chairperson, GEORGE MIZINGA says the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- needs to work at enhancing mechanisms for visually impaired citizens to cast their votes secretly.

Mr. MIZINGA says the braille jackets for visually impaired citizens in the August 12, 2021 General Election still require the use of an aid when voting.

He told ZNBC News in an interview that the current process still disadvantages the visually impaired citizens because the aid can manipulate the vote.

Mr. MIZINGA has however encouraged the ECZ to roll out a sensitisation programme that will educate the intended citizens on the voting process.

He has also called on the ECZ not to limit visually impaired persons in the August Election by requesting for an aid that is registered at the same polling station.
