TIMBER INDUSTRY NODS NEW GOVT STANCE

Some stakeholders in the Timber Industry have welcomed the pronouncement by Government to ban the issuance of Timber trading licenses to foreigners.

Those talked to say the move taken by Government will benefit local Timber traders and help create employment.

Others have appealed to Government to go a step further and investigate reports of foreigners that have bought huge forests from traditional leaders and are supplying Timber to local traders.

Yesterday during his first press conference held at State House, President Hakainde Hichilema said there will be no more issuance of Timber trading licenses to foreigners.
