TIMBER CONCESSIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED

By Hector Simfukwe:

The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has extended   the deadline for applications of new timber concessions by a month.

The extension is from May 31, 2022 to June 30, 2022.

This is because of various stakeholders who raised concerns that they may fail to fulfil the requirements by the deadline which was earlier given.

Green Economy and Environment Minister COLLINS NZOVU says in the spirit of being inclusive and economically empowering Zambian citizens, the Government has extended the deadline.

Mr. NZOVU says applicants are encouraged to undertake all requirements of the application process and submit the same to the various offices of the Forestry Department across the country as they wait for the Decision Letter for their Environmental Project Brief -EPB- from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency -ZEMA.

He says after the close of the application period on June 30, 2022, the Ministry will proceed with evaluation of the applications.

Mr. NZOVU says   concession licences will, by law, only be issued to successful applicants upon submission of a Decision Letter from ZEMA and an approved Environmental Project Brief.

This is contained in a statement made available to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
