Thousands enroll in schools in N/Western province

ZANIS-Over four thousand Seven hundred and fifty pupils have been enrolled in schools across North Western province following the introduction of free education policy from Grades One to 12 last year.

The Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia – FAWEZA -has disclosed that the province alone had an increase of 51.8 percent increase in school enrolment.

FAWEZA North Western Provincial Chairperson MINEVEAH MUBITA says One thousand Two hundred and fifty six boys have been enrolled in schools at primary level while one thousand four hundred and seventy four girls have equally been enrolled at the same levels.

Ms. MUBITA says at secondary level, a total of 1 thousand 1- hundred and 79 have been enrolled to school.

Speaking in a telephone interview with ZNBC News in Solwezi, Ms. MUBITA said the free education policy has allowed people in rural areas to have access to education.

Meanwhile, teacher unions in the Province have commended government for recruiting over thirty thousand teachers to meet the overwhelming deficit of teachers across the province.
