TEACHER UNIONS PROD MEMBERS TO VOTE

By Rueben Chomba

Various teacher unions have urged their members to scrutinize political candidates before voting them into power in this week’s general election.

Zambia National Union of Teachers -ZNUT- President James Kasisi has appealed to teachers to exercise their democratic right to vote.

In a telephone interview with ZNBC News, Mr. Kasisi also warned teachers to desist from political activities that may put them in problems with the authorities.

Meanwhile, National Union for Private and Public Educators of Zambia -NUPPEZ President Victor Muyumba said elections present an opportunity for teachers to elect leaders who will show interest to develop the teaching fraternity.

Mr. Muyumba further said civil servants must not make a mistake to elect leaders who are incapable and lack experience in governance matters.

Meanwhile, Federation of free trade unions of Zambia -FFTUZ- Chairperson Charity Kampamba urged women to come out in large numbers and vote in the August 12 general election.
