Tazara revenue declines

Ruth Chayinda-The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority -TAZARA- has recorded a decline in its revenue from $31m to $24m between 2021 and June 2022.

The Annual Freight performance is observed to have declined because of the accident
at Chambeshi bridge in Zambia and line wash aways in Tanzania.

In a statement released to ZNBC News, after the TAZARA Board of Directors meeting, the COVID pandemic and low availability of equipment also contributed to the decline in the financial year under review.

This came to light when the TAZARA Board of Directors held their 118th Board meeting in Tanzania.

The Board of Directors have also approved a proposal from Management to utilize $200,000 on immediate operational requirements.

This is out of the $2.4m that was granted earlier in the Financial year for short-term recapitalization by the Zambian government.
