STOP PILFERING OF MEDICINES-MASEBO

By Moombe Hamoboola:

Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says the pilferage of medicines in hospitals to private clinics and pharmacies must come to an end.

Speaking at the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia -PSZ- conference in Livingstone, Ms. Masebo said government is losing a lot of money through people who are stealing drugs from hospitals.

She has challenged pharmacists to help close up the loopholes because they are the ones on the ground and know how medicines end up in private hands.

Meanwhile, the Minister said the Zambia Medicines and Medical supplies Agency -ZAMMSA- board will be put in place immediately to functionalise its role.

Ms. Masebo said procuring medicines should move to ZAMMSA as provided for in the ZAMMSA Act of 2019.

And Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia President Kennedy Saini has urged the government to consider employing more pharmacists.

Mr. Saini said a number of interns have been working for several years without being employed by the government.
