State must appeal against HH’s acquittal – ZRP

Wright Musoma

Wright Musoma who heads Zambian Republican Party (ZRP), an opposition party aligned to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has demanded that State appeals against the acquittal of UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.

Musoma says the State must appeal against the acquittal because it was in bad faith and the reasons given are unrealistic and far fetched.

“We, as Zambians Republic Party, are shocked at the judgment in the case of Hakainde Hichilema where he was acquitted by the magistrate for allegedly insulting the police on grounds that there was no sufficient evidence.

“We are really shocked because what evidence was the Magistrate looking for? HH was reported by the police who went to arrest him and were the people who took him to court alleging that he (HH) had insulted him.

“HH showered them terrible insults but they restrained themselves from beating him because of the nature of the insults where he called them dogs, mother f****rs and idiots,” he said.

Delivering the verdict Monday morning, Lusaka Magistrate, Greenwell Malumani said the state witnesses lacked credibility and professionalism.

Magistrate Malumani observed that the police arrested the accused person on all charges including treason without any investigation.

The Magistrate stated the state has failed to prove that the accused person committed the offense before court. He says there was no credibility in the case brought before him by the state.
