Special forces candidate dies during training

A Zambia Army Special Forces candidate has died, after collapsing during a mandatory military run, in Ndola on the Copperbelt.

Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant-General SITALI ALIBUZWI announced the death of ELISHA DAKA, aged 21, adding that his family has since been notified.

General ALIBUZWI says Mr DAKA was pronounced dead upon arrival at the 1 Commando Unit Camp Hospital, where he was rushed, after collapsing.

He explained that medical military run is a mandatory requirement, which is part of the physical assessment tests, conducted for one to pass the required medical examinations.

General ALIBUZWI however says the army will continue to enforce all necessary standards to ensure the safety and well-being of all candidates, participating in the recruitment process.

He urged all candidates, participating in all selection processes categories, to have a relatively high level of physical fitness.

This is according to a Statement availed to ZNBC News in Lusaka by Zambia Army Spokesperson, Colonel MARTIN LIYUNGU.
