Speaker’s decision over 48 UPND MPs challenged in Court

Speaker, Dr Matibini

By MacDonald Chipenzi

It is interesting to learn that the Speaker’s decision to suspend the 48 MPs from the UPND over their walk-out due to their long held view of not recognising President Edgar Chagwa Lungu as dully elected after the Con Court failed to conclusively hear the presidential petition is now being challenged in the court.
On June 13, 2017, Speaker Patrick Matibini was in high emotions and suspended the 48 MPs and further challenged them to resign if they did not recognise the President as duly elected.
Last year, again the Speaker’s decision was at the Court challenge after he expelled Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) then from parliament on account that he watched GBM switching political parties on TV. GBM won the case and was paid all his dues including govt paying his legal costs.
The date to hear the case set for the end of this month and all eyes are set on the Court and its final decision.
I wish them well and keenly following.
