Some Lusaka residents vow to stay on Njanji Commuter railway land

By Mark Ziligone-Some Lusaka residents who have built properties on the Zambia Railways Njanji Commuters Reserve Lands have vowed NOT to allow anyone to demolish their structures because the matter is still before the court.

The Residents explained that the Zambia Railways have NO powers to demolish any structures because the land was allegedly acquired using the right procedure a matter which is in court.

The group of residents from Lusaka’s Libala area who chose to remain anonymous said they have engaged their legal personnel over the matter.

And GOLIATH BANDA has called on Government to engage all the affected people and see how the matter can be resolved.

Mr. BANDA told ZNBC News in an interview that demolishing the structures without compensating the affected parties would NOT the best solution.

He said a lot of families have spent a lot of money of the structures and that it would be unfair to demolish their properties.

Zambia Railways Limited issued a notice that it would demolish all houses and structures that where illegally built on its land without compensation.
