SOCIAL MEDIA ABUSE IRKS POLICE

By Robert Mwanza:

Inspector General of Police LEMMY KAJOBA has sternly warned members of the public in the habit of using social media to commit crimes that the law will catch-up with them.

Mr. KAJOBA says the police is concerned that abuse of social media has continued unabated, adding that the police will not rest until perpetrators answer for their actions.

The Police chief has further warned that abuse of social media, which has in many cases resulted in defaming innocent citizens, is a serious offence under Section 69 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes number 2 of 2021.

Mr. KAJOBA added that the use of insulting language and defamation of the President constitute serious offences prohibited in the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

He said this in a statement released to ZNBC News in Lusaka today.
