SIX ATHLETES SELECTED FOR WORLD HALF MARATHON

 

(ZANIS) A provisional team of 6 athletes has been selected to represent Zambia at the World Half Marathon in YangZhou, China.

The Athletes were among 10 clubs from various provinces in the country, who took part in the 21-kilometer Mayor’s Marathon in Choma yesterday.

Speaking during the Mayor’s Half Marathon in Choma, Zambia Athletics General Secretary DAVISON MUNG”AMBATA explained that the objective of the 21-kilometer race was to select athletes who will represent Zambia at the World Half Marathon slated for the 27th of March this year.

The Marathon which was organised by Zambia Athletics in partnership with Choma Municipal Council was held under the theme ‘Promoting Health and Wellness for All’.

MUNG”AMBATA is hopeful that the marathon will become an annual event and has since called for increased participation by Choma-based athletes.

Meanwhile Southern Province Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA said government will continue to invest in sport as a way of promoting wellness and productivity for all citizens in order to foster economic growth.

He has noted that physical fitness leads to a number of better life outcomes such as increased educational achievements as well as reduced healthcare costs.

MWEETWA said this in a speech read on his behalf by Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, YOLANTA MALUNGA.

The Minister has since praised Choma Municipal Council and Zambia Athletics for organising the event, adding that such help keeps the youth from indulging in illicit activities.
