Selfishness driving boundary disputes, says Chief Chisunka

Chiwaza Nachalwe-The council of chiefs in Luapula has bemoaned the increasing levels of selfishness among traditional leaders which has led to a number of chiefdom boundary disputes.

Chief CHISUNKA of the Ushi people who is also the chairperson of the Luapula council of chiefs says most chiefs have been having disputes over boundaries due to selfish reason.

He says such wrangles have led to disunity and hatred among the chiefs.

The traditional leader was speaking during a consultative meeting with 16 chiefs and the local leadership in Luapula on the reproduced 1958 chiefdom boundary maps.

Chief CHISUNKA has since thanked government for availing the maps which he says will help settle disputes over boundaries away from the courts.

He says it is embarrassing to see chiefs settle matters in court.

Speaking at the same meeting Chief KASHIBA of Mwense district appealed to government to quickly resolve the issue of chiefdoms not appearing on the 1958 reproduced map.

Chief KASHIBA expressed concern that the omission has the potential to undermine the chiefdoms that have been left out.

And Luapula province PS Might MUMBA says Government is already addressing the issues as money has been made available to produce a new map which will supersede the 1958 chiefdom map.
