Scouting Report: Zanaco’s M’hango impressing Asanovic

Zanaco defender Christopher M’hango has caught the eye of Chipolopolo coach Aljosa Asanovic, the ZamFoot Crew understands

The 22 year old defender has been an ever present in the bankers’ line up since December 15, 2021 when he made his debut.

The towering defender was handed his debut by Zanaco coach Kelvin Kaindu in an away tie against Kansanshi Dynamos, and since then he has never looked back.

The young Zanaco product has kept seasoned defenders like Isaac Shamujompa and Kevin Owusu out of the starting line up.

Initially when he broke into the team, M’hango was being partnered with Kelvin Kapumbu in central defence.

The M’hango – Kapumbu partnership ended last week against Forest Rangers after Kaindu decided to pair him with Kevin Owusu while Kapumbu moved back to his holding midfield role.

The second instalment of the M’hango – Owusu twin tower pairing was in the North African job against Tunisian side Club Sportive Sfaxien on Sunday night.

In the defeat to Sfaxien, a game which was watched by Asanovic on TV, the 22 year old again impressed.

M’hango was actually making his debut in the CAF Confederations Cup and commanded the back line well.

While he is still raw especially on the tactical side of the game, the young defender has an aerial presence.

He is commanding and no-nonsense kind of defender, and recently was sent off at Sunset Stadium against Forest Rangers for a two footed challenge.

The 22 year tough tackling defender is also uncompromising, and is been described as one of Zambia’s symbol of present and future.

He is comfortable with playing from the back.

While Kabwe Warriors’ Dominic Chanda remains the Zambia’s no.1 centre back, M’hango, Green Buffaloes’ Fredrick Mwimanzi and Richard Daka of Kafue Celtc are being touted as possible future Chipolopolo centre backs.
