Schools to Incorporate Vocational Careers

Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA says the Ministry has put in place a policy to encourage schools to incorporate vocational career pathways such as sports so that learners acquire management and leadership skills at an early age.

SYAKALIMA says with such skills, young people will grow up to be responsible citizens who will contribute to both economic and social development of the country.

He was speaking during the official opening of the Zambia Schools Sports Association -ZASSA- 2023 Inter Provincial Ball and Racket Games Competitions in Livingstone.

SYAKALIMA says sports in this era of technology can be used as a tool to transform the minds of children to engage them in innovative ventures that will enable them to have decent living.

He applauded ZASSA for its continued inclusion of children with special education needs and disabilities to compete in various ball games.

And ZASSA President, MWENDELEMA MWANZA has called on all sports mother bodies in the country to take advantage of festivals for talent identification.

MWANZA says many exceptional sports talents in Zambia are untapped because of lack of proper networking for talent identification and development.

Meanwhile, Football Association of Zambia Southern Province Chairperson, FRANCIS HAFWITI says some of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations- COSAFA under 15 project players will be selected among participants at the on-going ZASSA 2023 Inter-provincial Ball and Racket Games.
