By Chansa Kunda

Four hundred meters sprinter MUZALA SAMUKONGA has qualified to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

This after clocking 44.85 seconds during the All Comers Meet held at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola today.

The time pulled sees SAMUKONGA qualify for all major continental and global competitions to be held this year like the African games, African Senior and World athletics Championships.

The 44.85 seconds becomes SAMUKONGA’s seasonal best record as he is still pushing to get past his personal best time which still stands at 43.91 seconds.

SAMUKONGA has since become the second Athlete to qualify for the 2024 Olympics joining Boxer, PATRICK CHINYEMBA.

Speaking to ZNBC Sport News in an interview, SAMUKONGA said qualifying to the Olympics is a great comeback after struggling with an injury that saw him miss out on major championships last year.

SAMUKONGA says the aim will be to mint gold at the African games next month in Ghana.

And, Zambia Athletics President ELIAS MPONDELA says it is gratifying to see SAMUKONGA qualify adding that it is hoped that others will follow suit as they have promising performances that can see them qualify with an extra push.

Meanwhile, Athletics National team Coach DOUGLAS KALEMBO says he  has a clear roadmap to prepare athletes for the African games.

He has further predicted that the Athletes will mint at least four medals.

And, National Olympics committee of Zambia -NOCZ-President ALFRED FOLOKO says he is happy that most athletics athletes have hit their personal best records.
