Sakala takes his Fashion to Seville for the Europa League final

Chipolopolo forward Fashion Sakala Jnr and his FC Rangers teammates have left for Seville, Spain ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final.

Seville’s Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium will stage the final of the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League on Wednesday, 18th May with kick off set at 21:00hrs.

Sakala was rested on the weekend as the Light Blues made easy work of Hearts in a Scottish Premiership encounter.

With Alfredo Morelos out injured and Kemar Roofe questionable, the Zambian international and Joe Aribo are expected to lead the attack for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men.

Sakala is yet to open his account in this competition this season and will be eager to get on the score sheet and help his team secure the trophy and a place in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage.

Sakala has netted 12 times and assisted seven in all competitions since his switch from Belgian side KV Oostende in July last year.

It’s been 50 years since Rangers last won a European trophy and with all eyes on van Bronckhorst’s squad travelling to Andalucía they’ll be aiming to replicate 1972’s success to bring the Europa League trophy back to Ibrox.

The Scottish side have already eliminated two German clubs in the knockout stages: Dortmund in the knockout round play-offs, and Leipzig in the last four.

Frankfurt have lifted the trophy before, though, defeating domestic rivals Mönchengladbach 4-3 over two legs in 1980. Rangers lost 2-0 to Zenit in Manchester in 2008, their only previous final in the last season of the UEFA Cup before the competition was rebranded.
