SADC Summit Requests HH to Broker Peace Between DRC and Rwanda

The extraordinary summit of SADC Heads of State and Government has expressed concern at the deterioration of security and the humanitarian situation in the Eastern DRC .

The Summit has since asked President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA who is the SADC troika Chairperson to intensify diplomatic efforts between DRC and Rwanda to bring  lasting peace in the DRC.

It has also provided guidance on the deployment of the SADC mission in the DRC to restore peace and security in that country.

In a communiqué released to ZNBC News, the Summit reiterated the need for SADC to spearhead efforts towards mobilization of resources for facilitating peace and security in the region by reviving discussions to establish and operationalise the SADC Peace Fund.

The Summit also wished Madagascar and DRC well as they head towards elections in November and December this year.

Meanwhile, the Summit called for stakeholders in the national assembly of The Kingdom of Lesotho to ensure that the reform process is brought to finality in the interest of national political, economic and security stability.

The Summit also commended President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, who is the SADC troika Chairperson, for his leadership in sustaining peace and security in the region.
