SACCORD WELCOMES GUN AMNESTY

The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes -SACCORD- has welcomed the gun amnesty, offered to the public by the police.

This follows the recent political violence in the country characterised by use of firearms, which SACCORD says intimidates and traumatises citizens.

SACCORD Executive Director, BONIFACE CHEEMBE says the increase in the circulation and usage of firearms has contributed to a reduction in the safety and security of citizens.

In a statement availed to ZNBC News today, Mr. CHEEMBE said this can be evidenced in the reduced levels of peacefulness, as contained in the 15th edition of the 2021 Global Peace Index.

He has since appealed to all citizens, who may be in possession of such firearms, to take advantage of the amnesty and surrender them to the police.
