Sabobo nets screamer as the race for Eden University ND1 promotion heats up

The chase for National League playoffs continues with Young Green Buffaloes’ 2-1 away win and a bottle of mojo drink derailing Misisi in an abandoned match at Katwishi ground taking the limelight when week 27 FAZ Division 1 Lusaka came live over the weekend.

Drama characterized scenes at the most talked-about Katwishi Ground in the Lusaka Province Division 1 as it had to take a bottle of mojo drink to force the match officials to abandon the match. Chongwe United took the lead in the first half through Samuel Banda to send the match to the break with the home side trailing by a goal.

In the second half, Misisi found an equalizer in a controversial situation that led the officials to consult themselves and the goal was not given that led to the home fans react emotionally. One bottle of mojo drink came from the fan’s hand and it landed on one of the match officials which forced them to stop the match raising a concern of security at the venue. The winner was not decided because the match was abandoned.

Young Green Buffaloes’ 2-1 away win over Young Zanaco kept their dream of qualifying to the Eden University National League alive as they continue to lead the journey.

The young Buffaloes had to overcome the scare of the Young Zanaco side who disciplined Kabwata Dynamos 4-0 on Thursday as they found the back of the net early through Martin Daka. The young buffaloes had to respond before halftime through Lucky Bwalya to level matters to make sure the match went to the break level at 1-1. In the second half, Michael Musonda had to rise to the occasion and make it 2-1 in favor of the Army side to maintain the top slot.

In another chase for promotion, Lusaka City Council continued putting pressure on Young Buffaloes as they registered a 1-0 win over Irwin Rangers thanks to Ernest Mutale’s lone goal. They remain in second place with 44 points just 2 behind leaders Young Green Buffaloes who are on 46 points. The other team in the chase, Young NAPSA Stars suffered a setback as they could not win their match, recording a goalless draw against Shamuel Academy.

In other matches, Chainda Bombers collected a point away from home when they visited bottom-placed Kabwata Dynamos. Vinicius Mapande and James Phiri scored a goal each for Riflemen and Airport Warriors respectively to share the points at Green Square Ground was as Happy Hearts lost 1-0 at home to Sable Bulls.

Undoubtedly a goal of the week will go to Under 17 star Joseph ‘Sabobo’ Banda as he had to strike a powerful shot from a long-range to send the match to a 2 all draw with Kalilo Celtic. He also scored a brace in the match. Vector’s three wins in a row were brought to an end at Miller Ground when they lost one-nil to Paramilitary.
