RTSA ON CHINGWERE TURN OFF ACCIDENT

By Brian Mwale:

The Road Transport and Safety Agency -RTSA- has attributed the cause of last night’s accident which claimed 9 lives at Chingwere Turn Off on the Great North Road to driver negligence and excessive speed.

RTSA Head – Public Relations Fredrick Mubanga says the driver of the Howo Truck which rammed into a Rosa Bus drove without reasonable care for other road users by failing to stick to his lane.

Mr. Mubanga says the driver of the truck could have controlled the vehicle if he was driving at an appropriate speed limit despite the inappropriate cutting in by the driver of the Hiace Bus in front of the truck.

He says the driver of the Truck who is currently on the run, violated the driver’s duty of reasonable care and demonstrated to be a danger to other road users.

This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC News in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, three out of the eighteen Great North Road accident victims who were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital -UTH- in Lusaka on Saturday have been discharged.

UTH Public Relations Manager Natalie Mashikolo says out of the remaining 15, three are in a critical condition while the other twelve have not been identified.

She says no one has come through to identify the patients and the seven deceased who are lying in the UTH Mortuary.

Meanwhile, some residents in Zani Muone area have called on the relevant authorities to put up safety measures along the Great North dual carriage way looking at the number of accidents recorded.
