Results centre launched

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has officially launched the National Results centre for the 2016 General Election at Mulungushi Conference Centre in Lusaka.

ECZ Chairperson Justice Essau Chulu says the commission has made efforts to ensure that the election and referendum are conducted in a transparent, free and credible manner.

Justice Chulu disclosed that all security and non security materials have been delivered to all the districts ahead of the election on Thursday, August 11, 2016.

He has however noted with concern the violence that has characterised the campaign period.

Justice Chulu was speaking when he launched the National Results centre for the 2016 General Election at Mulungushi Conference Centre in Lusaka.

Justice Chulu has appealed to candidates and political parties to advise their supporters to exercise maximum restrain and conduct themselves peacefully as they cast their vote.

He has also expressed disappointment at what he termed disturbing reports were some members of the public were intercepting vehicles carrying ballot papers to various polling station.

Justice Chulu described this as an act of sabotage aimed at derailing the electoral process.

He has urged the police command to be alert to ensure law and order is maintained during and after the election – ZNBC
