RELEASE THE WORKERS-LABOUR PS

Ministry of Labour Permanent Secretary Chanda Kaziya has directed China Machinery a company based in Chongwe district to release its workers who have been in quarantine at their work place for the last six months.

Mr. Kaziya gave the directives after visiting the company and learnt that the workers have been quarantined since last year in August.

The Permanent Secretary has also given China Machinery a 10 days ultimatum to improve the conditions of service for workers.

He said Government appreciates the investment that the company has done in Zambia but that there is need that the investor uphold the laid down labour laws.

A Representative for China Machinery only identified as SUE has promised to improve working conditions of service for workers.

And Mr. Kaziya said Government will this year also work to improve conditions of service for those in the media.

He pointed out that government has information that many employers do not have good conditions of service for most journalists.
