Referee rescinds a red card in Nkana win over Nkwazi

Zambian referee Derrick Kafuli made headlines for the wrong reasons during the Nkana vs Nkwazi match as he wrongly showed a first offender in Duncan Otieno a (second yellow) red card but later rescinded following a protest.

Around the 77th minute, Kafuli yellow-carded Otieno following a foul on a Nkwazi player and immediately showed him a red card (Second yellow card) thinking it was his second offense when it was actually the first bookable offense he made in the match.

The move was however faced with a demonstration by Nkana players led by Idriss Ilunga Mbombo to make sure the decision was rescinded as Otieno was never booked prior to that incident.

The unhappy Nkana players managed to convince the referee who at a time was getting rescued by the assistant referee and rescinded his decision much to the delight of the fans and players.

Nkana last week came under heavy scrutiny for their complaining and frustrating match officials with Idris Mbombo being the main culprit during their heavy derby loss but today they were justified.

Nkana managed to win the game 1-0 thanks to a first-half penalty converted by Shadreck Musonda helping them to move up to fourth place on the table.
