The Zambia Red Cross Society has pledged to mobilize resources to cushion the impact of the drought on citizens.

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA last week declared the prolonged drought as a national disaster and emergency.

Zambia Red Cross Secretary General COSMAS SAKALA says the humanitarian organisation will activate the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund -DREF- to provide assistance to communities affected by the drought.

Mr SAKALA was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in LUSAKA.

He is also confident in the collective efforts of all involved parties which include Cooperating Partners to mitigate the impact of the drought and provide support to affected communities.
