RE-LOOK BARRIERS IN TOURISM DEVELOPMENT – CTPD

The Centre for Trade Policy and Development CTPD has welcomed President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s proposal to re-look at the barriers that hinder development in the tourism industry.

CTPD Executive Director, ISAAC MWAIPOPO says one of the hindrances is the procedures to acquire visa which at times negatively impacts on the inflow of tourists into the country.

Mr. MWAIPOPO says the move is progressive and can go a long way in stimulating international travel

He however says there is need for the country to make more effort in improving domestic tourism so that the country is not only dependant on international travels.

Mr. MWAIPOPO told ZNBC News that such initiative and approaches will sustain job creation, poverty elevation in tourism, as it is a strategic sector that can contribute to the growth of the economy amid the economic challenges.

This follows President HICHILEMA statement at the just ended EU Zambia Economic Forum where he said Zambia needs to review the VISA process to attract more tourists and stressed that government should not look at the Visa fees as revenue generation exercise

President HICHILEMA said instead Zambia should offer tourists attractive packages that will see an increased inflow and enable them to spend more monies in the country.
