PSMD TO REVISIT POLICY ON COMMUTATION OF LEAVE

By Brian Mwale

Government is exploring possibilities of revisiting the policy on commutation of leave for civil servants who do not have any loans as part of enabling them benefit from the debt swap.

Public Service Management Division Permanent Secretary Boniface Chimbwali says he is engaging the Secretary to Cabinet and other senior leaders on the exercise so that all civil servants benefit from the exercise.

Mr Chimbwali says workers in parastatals, council, defence force and all civil servants need to be covered.

And Mr. Chimbwali has also advised civil servants to declare all of their debt including those accessed from microfinance companies so that it could be sorted out.

He says the success of the debt swap depends on the civil servants’ speed to reconcile their debt.

Mr. Chimbwali says financial literacy is key to stop civil servants from falling back into debt which government is trying to get them out.

And Mr. Chimbwali has told ZNBC News in Mansa that government has made great strides in addressing concerns of civil servants like processing of transfers, confirmation of people and promotions being equitably done.

He said the measures are all aimed at enhancing productivity among civil servants.

Mr. Chimbwali adds that the crop bumper harvest recorded in the province is all attributed to efforts of civil servants.
