PSL clubs cautious about Shonga as ZSL top clubs eye the former Nkwazi striker

Former Nkwazi striker Justin Shonga might return to the Zambian Super League next month, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

The 25 year old was recently released by Egyptian club Ismaily after just 2 months at the club.

“As you know, Shonga is now a free agent. A lot of big clubs like Zanaco, Red Arrows and Zesco United are looking for strikers,” a source told the ZamFoot Crew in Lusaka.

“He is a quality boy and it is a just about working on small details.

Shonga joined Ismaily in October, 2021 from South African side Cape Town City.

He made just 4 appearances for Ismaily.

Shonga impressed in friendly matches for Ismaily but couldn’t find the back of the net in the 4 official games he featured

He was released from Cape Town City six months [joined the club in January 2021] into his three and a half year contract where he struggled to find the form.

He then had a trial at Benni McCarthy’s Amazulu but the Bafana Bafana legend didn’t not take up the options of signing him on.

“I think the boy does have a lot of quality, he’s really good and if you can get him back to that fitness level… he’s going to need time, it’s been a long time to be out of football,” Usuthu head coach McCarthy said back in August.

“I’m sad for the player, he’s got all the quality and attributes but he just needs a bit of time to get back to that level.”

While Amazulu couldn’t take him on, Ismaily signed him.

Shonga had unsuccessful spell at Capet own City

Shonga scored 17 goals in 97 appearances in all competitions during his time in South Africa after featuring for Orlando Pirates, TTM and Cape Town.

On the international scene, Shonga last featured for Zambia in the Cosafa Cup in July and was ignored for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers
