Professional Quantity Surveyors Urged To Advise Govt – KATOTOBWE

A Local Contractor has urged professional bodies such as the Zambia Institute of Quantity Surveyors to be proactive in advising government on issues affecting the Zambian construction industry.

CHANDA KATOTOBWE who is board chairperson and founder of Tomorrow Investments limited says professional bodies such as the Zambia Institute of Quantity Surveyors should be proactive in advising government on matters impacting the Zambian construction sector.

In his keynote speech at the Zambia Institute of Quantity Surveyors Annual General Meeting -AGM- in Livingstone, Mr. KATOTOBWE urged professional bodies and the academia to take an active role in resolving controversial matters in the industry.

He further said that quantity surveyors who are custodians of the cost models in construction must be part of the conversation involving the value for money discussions which are currently taking place.

Mr. KATOTOBWE who is also Luapula Constituency Member of Parliament bemoaned the low participation of less than 10 percent by value of Zambian consultants and contractors while foreign consultants and contractors have over 90 percent by value of market share.

Meanwhile Mr. KATOTOBWE has urged local companies to be active in Corporate Social investment as a way to increase their visibility in the country.

The conference was attended by eminent chartered quantity surveyors and Copperbelt University -CBU, University of Zambia -UNZA and other construction industries stakeholders.
