Private sector urged to invest in rural areas energy sector

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government will develop a framework to support the private sector to put up energy infrastructure such as filling stations in rural areas.

President HICHILEMA says people in rural areas must not be left behind in development just because they live far from urban areas.

In a speech read on his behalf by Energy Minister PETER KAPALA during the opening of the Chifunabuli Rural Service Station in Chifunabuli District, President HICHILEMA said Government will foster inclusive economic development.

Speaking at the same event, PUMA Energy Zambia Managing Director PATRICIO CHABABO said the company will in the next three years invest one-hundred and -50 million Kwacha to set up 24-service stations in some rural areas.

And, Chief CHITEMBO of the Ngumbo people thanked President HICHILEMA for facilitating the investment of the first ever filling station in Chifunabuli District.

The Traditional Leader also called on the President to ensure the completion of the construction of the Musaila -Lupososhi Road.
