By Ruth Chayinda

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is expected to be among the African Heads of State and Government who will attend the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.

The event takes place from 18th to 19th February 2023, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister STANLEY KAKUBO says President HICHILEMA will use the summit to advance and protect Zambia’s interests at continental level .

Mr. KAKUBO says the head of State is also expected to be part of the decision-making process on critical areas such as regional integration, peace and security, good governance, food security, and nutrition.

He says President HICHILEMA will also use the opportunity to network with all relevant players in the development discourse.

The Minister says all the President’s trips are strategic as he meets key stakeholders relevant to Zambia’s economic growth through increased trade and investment.

He, however, says President HICHILEMA has indicated that he will spend 70 percent of his time in the country to resolve rigidities that are taking too long to attract investment.

The Summit will be held under the theme: Accelerated Implementation of AfCFTA which will mainly focus on the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
