President HICHILEMA demands removal all Ghost workers from payroll

By Paul Shalala

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has tasked Permanent Secretaries to ensure all ghost workers are removed from the payroll.

President HICHILEMA says only civil servants who have been employed in the public sector must be on the payroll.

Speaking at State House today when he swore in Permanent Secretaries for the Ministries of Commerce, Mines and Energy, President HICHILEMA said he was not happy with what he read in the Auditor General’s Report on Government Payroll.

He said controlling officers must ensure public funds are protected and used for the intended purpose.

Those Sworn in are Mines Permanent Secretary MOOYA LUMAMBA, Energy Permanent Secretary HIMBA CHEELO and Commerce Permanent Secretary JOHN MULONGOTI.

And Mr. LUMAMBA has told ZNBC News in an interview that his focus will be to fulfill government plans to scale up production of copper to three million tonnes per year.

Meanwhile, Ms CHEELO said she will ensure the Kalungwishi Power Station in Luapula Province is operationalised.

And Mr. MULONGOTI said he will work to push the government agenda on development.
